At 1820 we develop, redevelop, and invest in urban core real estate. But the why is what really gets our blood moving.
Two hundred years ago, an earlier group of placemakers planned for a new city to be created on some land along a river—shaping the place in ways that have cascaded ever since. Stakes were driven into the dirt and Indianapolis came onto the map, with hopes and visions for what it could someday be.
We’ve come a long way since 1820. Today, the Circle City is one of the most vibrant and connected in the country. Why? Because of significant financial investment, smart planning, risk-taking, and creative momentum that continues to multiply. Indianapolis has spent two centuries refining its identity, but we’re far from done. And that’s where things get interesting.
We’re standing on the gains and lessons of the last two hundred years, and it’s time to take the next two hundred seriously. For us, this is done by first looking hard at our past, honoring what worked and acknowledging what didn’t, and why. Then, we plan for our future with the intention to do even better by the people and their city.
Where there’s a possibility to create a better environment to live and grow, we’ll seize it. Where we can help foster a deeper sense of belonging and inclusivity, we’ll do it. Where our instinct and knowledge align with an investment, we’ll say yes to it. And where we see potential for new opportunity and innovation, we’ll chase it.
Place is a powerful force in our lives. Our context—where we come from—impacts who we are. At 1820, we believe real estate is a critical influencer in how a place is experienced, and we are called to make it good.
